Product description

The La Sportiva Ultra Raptor is a high performance, do it all, trail running shoe for those with narrow feet. Just enough cushion, shock absorption and an 8mm heel-to-toe drop makes for a smooth foot strike and all day comfort that doesn’t quit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good strong toe

I have climbed for about 7 months on these shoes so far (close to 200 hours on these shoes). So far I feel they work great on small walls due to a very strong toe. They are a slightly aggressive shoe but probably only fall in the mid range in that category. I find that heal hooks slip a bit but that might just be because they are not my strong suit. Toes hooks work pretty well for a shoe with a leather top, though I would prefer a rubberized top if you will be doing a lot. Not the best for smearing.

Hope this review helps some of the newer climbers looking for a second or third shoe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way too narrow even for my small feet

Update to first review:
I'm updating the rating to 5 stars. After breaking these shoes in and using foot glide on hikes I must say that this is the best hiking shoe I've ever worn. The sole is extremally grippy even in very wet conditions and provides excellent protection on rocks. The top is very durable - after a couple of strenuous very rocky hikes/scrambles in Drakensberg it still holds up well and shows only minor wear and tear. They are light and not bulky and dry relatively fast on and off the foot.

First review:
I've worn these shoes 3 times so far totaling about 16 miles on rough and rocky trails. Every time I wear them I get huge blisters on my pinky tows. I tried wearing the thinnest socks I have today and still got blisters. The fit length-wise is pretty good. I really like the bottom and that it's non slippery but the width sizing is just terrible. I'm going to try Glide products on my pinkies next time hoping that these will eventually break in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Possibly a 5 star shoe that runs small

For years I have been wearing shoes by Oboz, Vasque, Merrell, Hanwag, Asolo, Adidas, Lems, you name it, and in every brand I take a size 10.5. And my feet are just average width.

So I ordered these in the same size and they were way too small. So I ordered another pair in size 11. Still a bit too small (width and length). So I ordered another pair in size 11.5. BINGO! Fit great.

So these shoes run about one full size too small. I recommend ordering UP at least a half size if not one full size like I needed.

The shoe fits like a glove, so if you have even slightly wider than average feet, these probably won't work well for you. But if they fit, they are great.

The arch area of the insole is bit too high for my feet, so I clipped about 1/4" off that curved raised part and now they feel great.

The soles are sticky, but no more sticky than my much cheaper Adidas Terrex AX2 shoes with the "Traxion" soles.

I was a bit disappointed when I stepped on some large rocks while hiking up some mountains in Shenandoah National Park last week. They stick great if they are DRY. But the smallest amount of moisture from the ground caused these things to slip badly on the rocks, until they dried out again.

So they didn't really perform any better than my Adidas, but they do fit more like a glove, allowing you to "feel" the rocks nicely.

Also, I really like how the tongue is designed.

These are the narrowest shoes I have ever tried on. Stay away if you have wide feet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very slim fit. Sizing will not work for everyone.

I typically wear a 40.5 and like my shoes snug so I decided to give that a try instead of sizing up as many recommend. They were way too small. No way I could have worn them. Returned the first pair and ordered a size 42. They are a hair tighter than I would like with thin socks and perfect with no socks so I expect they will break in well. Overall I like them very much. Good styling, lightweight, extended close spaced lacing, good grip, and wear protection in the right places. Would have given them 5 stars if I hadn't had to send the first pair back.
