Emily’s Background

Despite being 25 years old this year, life is still full of hidden surprises for Emily Soh to discover. Since young, she has had a passion for art, both traditional and digital.

She began drawing and bringing to life her imagination of a colourful world as soon as she could hold a pencil. Her passion for art expanded as she grew older, experimenting from painting to modelling clay, her mind never content to rest and her heart filled with artistic wanderlust.

When she’s not busy working in her full-time role at SecretLab, Emily dives into her many art and game-related hobbies. If she is not drawing on her tablet for fun, she is learning how to make simple frame-by-frame animations.

Emily's Background

But that’s not all – Emily is also a gaming and anime enthusiast. You’ll often find her firing away and healing teammates on Overwatch and trying out new games on Steam upon release. And when she’s not winning matches, she likes to share the latest news in the Anime, Convention, and Games as well as Attraction scenes to her friends, either about cafés with furry companions or photo-op worthy decor,  or the latest Anime Conventions both locally and overseas in countries like Japan, both big and small where independent and commercial businesses, artists and exhibits gather.

Despite only having been to places like Johor Bahru on short day trips, or Hong Kong for school trips, Emily yearns to one day explore at least one country in each continent of the world, enjoying the food, and learning about the different cultures.

Education/ Expertise

Emily first got her Higher Nitec in Passenger Services at ITE College Central, before progressing on to get her Diploma in Tourism and Resort Management at Singapore Polytechnic.

Her latest academic achievement would be her SkillsFuture Work-Study Certificate in Digital Marketing at the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies, Nanyang Polytechnic.

What’s your Favourite Country and City/ Why?

It may sound typical, but my favourite country has to be Japan!

Japan has many centuries-old cultural traditions and landmarks that have been preserved and celebrated. From tea ceremonies and traditional arts like calligraphy and ikebana to the iconic kimono attire, it would be amazing if I could go there in person.

Of course, Japan also has many significant achievements in global pop culture, which are anime, manga, J-pop music, and even fashion trends

In short, Japan definitely is full of both traditional and modern wonders to learn more about

If there is 1 piece of advice you can give to travellers, what would it be?

Even before travelling, it is important to ensure that you do research not only about the itinerary but visa requirements or societal norms to observe in another country.

It’s better to stay safe and admire another country than risk being underprepared and spoiling the entire trip!
