1. The Louvre Abu Dhabi
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a part of the US$27 billion development that’s taking place on Abu Dhabi’s cultural hotspot, Saadiyat Island. Louvre Abu Dhabi will be displaying several incredible artworks borrowed from the Paris Louvre.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is the result of collaboration between the French Museums Agency and Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC). The Louvre Abu Dhabi will be flanked by Zayed National Museum and the world’s largest Guggenheim museum in the world, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Contemporary Arts Museum.
The French and Abu Dhabi’s governments have drawn up a thirty-year agreement during which the Louvre Abu Dhabi will exhibit priceless works of art from the Musée d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou and Musée du Louvre, Paris. These exhibits will be displayed chronologically, through four distinct periods:
· Archeology
· The Birth of Islam
· The Classical Age
· The Modern Era
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will encompass a total area of 260,000 square feet, which is being completed at a cost of 146 million USD. That apart, the Abu Dhabi government paid USD 525 million to the French government in order to be associated with the name of the Paris Louvre.
The Abu Dhabi government has shelled out an additional USD 747 million to several international museums in exchange for art, management advice and special exhibitions. The Dubai Frame is a 150 meter high and 93 meter-wide huge picture frame constructed of two vertical columns balanced by two horizontal structures forming a typical traditional picture frame. Now what’s in the picture frame is another story. The Dubai Frame is located close to Zabeel Park.
The two towers of the frame are connected by a 100-square-metre bridge with a glass panel insert that goes on for 25-square-metres. You can enjoy fabulous views of the Dubai Water Canal project, the Dubai Creek and the Dubai skyline from this incredible glass panel. The ground floor will house a museum that will showcase Dubai’s incredible transformation from pearl farming and fishing village to the metropolis it is today. The project is costing the government a total of AED 160 million.
4. Bluewaters Island, Dubai
Bluewaters Island is the location of the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, Ain Dubai or the Dubai Eye. The project is valued at AED6 billion. Bluewaters Island is located near Jumeirah Beach Residence and is expected to pull in three million guests each year.
Apart from Dubai Eye which will be the main draw, Bluewaters Island will house several zones with structures for hospitality, residency, business and entertainment. 5. Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi
Warner Bros is scheduled to open its doors in 2018 and what a rush it’ll provide for lovers of amusement parks! Apparently all 29 rides have been tested thoroughly and are now being installed on the Warner Bros site that spans 1.65 million square feet right in the middle of Yas Island.
Yas Island is already home to the Ferrari World and Yas Water Park. Warner Bros will be the third and biggest feather in Yas Islands’ cap. Visit the park when it opens to enjoy rides inspired by Warner Bros characters such as Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Harry Potter, Batman, DC Universe characters, Superman, Wonder Woman and Tom And Jerry. There’ll also be plenty of shops selling Warner Bros. merchandise plus various restaurants.
6. CLYMB Abu Dhabi
CLYMB Abu Dhabi will house the UAE’s largest indoor climbing wall, and also the world’s biggest indoor skydiving facility. It is an AED 367 million indoor development featuring a 32 feet wide indoor skydiving destination, the widest in the world so far.
Scheduled to open mid-to-late 2018, the skydiving unit will provide all necessary equipment and organize jumps from a height of 10,000 feet in tandem or solo. CLYMB will also feature the world’s tallest climbing wall, which will be like climbing four walls of varying difficulty. There’ll also be the usual retailers, party space and food and beverage outlets. With CLYMB and Warner Bros, Abu Dhabi is all set to turn Yas Island into the world’s most sought-after amusement locale.
