What You Should Know Before Buying

History of Arc’teryx

Arc’teryx, named after the archaeopteryx fossil (an evolutionary link between avian and non-avian dinosaurs) that was discovered in modern day Bavaria, is a Canadian brand on a self-appointed mission to revolutionise the outdoor clothing market.

They focus on producing high-quality, durable products that will last a lifetime to sustain both the environment and your hard-earned savings a little bit longer. The company was founded in 1989 under the name “Rock Solid”, and now employs over 1200 employees globally as an internationally recognised brand of trustworthy outdoor clothing.

Material and Design

Arc’teryx has a partnership with GoreTex and produces some of their most protective clothes from the waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane. Their shoes often feature industry standard Vibram MegaGrip – a durable and stable outer sole that provides unbeatable grip on rough surfaces. Arc’teryx designs tend to be simplistic, minimalist, stylish, and streamlined, fully focussing on the function of the product over the looks and affordability.

History of The North Face

Despite recently collaborating with Gucci for a fashionable outdoor range of products inspired by the 70s, The North Face humbly began in San Francisco in 1966 when two hiking enthusiasts decided to start a niche mountaineering store. While originally an outdoor apparel company, over time their brand became known as fashionable and as a result, The North Face has been targeted by many rip-offs and imitators, and their logo has been used to sell fake products. The company still persists to produce quality outdoor clothing with their instantly recognised branding across the globe.

Material and Design

Like Arc’teryx, The North Face are also in partnership with GoreTex and create some of their more protective products from the world-renowned membrane. They also produce a number of patented materials themselves, including Heatseeker insulation – a compressible synthetic alternative to traditional down that provides fantastic warmth to weight ratio, and DryVent – a more budget-friendly alternative to GoreTex.
