Continuation from Ireland Game of Thrones Tours…
Are you ready to check out the best Cliffs of Moher itinerary and Scenic Galway Tours from Dublin
Presenting one of the many highlights of my Ireland Trip:
1. The Majestic Cliffs of Moher
This was the biggest highlight for me in this trip, as I wasn’t expecting this destination to be so..spectacular.
The cliffs run for acres, when you stand in the middle from the carpark entrance and look on the left, it is made of consistent sharp edges neatly on and on, and on the right, it was a winding raw form, curvy and unassuming, in its pure unspoilt beauty.
Anyone who pays Cliffs of Moher a visit should be mindful to check the weather forecast before arriving, as the rugged beauty of the destination would be best experienced on a clear sunny day, with not too much overcast clouds, wind or strong rain. It not only gets scary and feel like you might get blown off, the ground gets slippery and muddy and it will limited the expereince of your walk if you are constantly in fear of landing your bum on the muddy ground or sliding off the cliffs.
Little word of advise: Where some good hiking boots and have a nice warm beanie/ scarf on to keep you warm against the strong wind.
Fantastic weather, a mix of warm sunshine yet still nice refreshing sea breeze.
The sun really brought out the vivid green hues of the grass and the details/ forms of the cliffs in the distance. On a rainy day you might not get that much visibility to see rolling cliffs after cliffs.
Short video snippet of what to expect when you are there. There might be some crowds at some segments, so buffer enough time to explore the place, take photos and walk back to the loading/ unloading area. We experienced small road hogs along the walk when some parts of the walk might only have a 1 way path, so everyone learns to wait for their chance to cross.
Cliffs of Moher can get a bit slippery to walk around, so it is recommended to wear proper hiking shoes so that you don’t slip and land your bum on the occasionally muddy ground.
There will also be some parts of the cliffs that requires you to go down some steep steps, so a pair of shoes will a very good grip and waterproofing will save you a lot of worry and stress of falling/ tumbling off the cliff.
2. Kilmacduagh Monastery -- A Worth it De-tour
Besides the Cliffs of Moher which was so beautiful, we also stopped by some other spots.
This protected and beautifully remote area which was our 1st pit stop housed the 12th century round tower and an abundance of 11th to 13th century ruins. Its rare to see round towers at monastic sites like this in Ireland, as most of them are usually square.
It takes 30 minutes to get to here from the Galway Plaza Service Station Rest Stop where we refuel and had a toilet break. I had to rush ahead of the crowd to capture an image of this beautiful site before the other travellers came into the frame.
If you love Ireland’s green pastures, you would love New Zealand too. Find out more!
3. Galway Girl and her City Tour 😉
Of coz since the Ed Sheeren song that came out about his mysterious Galway Girl, I couldn’t stop listening to that song in preparing of my visit here..to Galway!
It was a short stopover but we did get a glimpse of the bustling street of Galway, with its pretty flags, great irish busker musicians, cobbled streets and celtric design patterns/ walls.
I would recommend of you have time, to spend a night here and check out the night life. A friend of mine I met here had a really great time enjoying the Irish music and irish spirit and cheer. Sip a Guiness/ hot whisky and be intoxicated by the volin, flutes and irish dancing. Getting here is not too difficult if you are coming from Dublin, as there are bus Tours of Galway city from Dublin, or rent a car if you prefer to go at your own leisure pace.
4. Belfast City Tour + Trying to spot Jon Snow
When heading towards Belfast city, one can choose to take the scenic route going through Glens of Antrim.
Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland. It houses the stunning Titanic Visitor Experience Set here, which unfortunately we had no time to pay that place a visit. I heard it is expensive but worth every cent, especially if you are a big titanic fan.
Belfast city is a bustling city with its iconic cityhall and tons of busy commuters going about. Due to us running behind schedule, we only had 1 hour to get off the bus tour of Belfast city from Dublin for a quick walk to some souvenir shops and the city hall before scurrying back to catch our bus. We weren’t so lucky to bump into any of the game of thrones cast which were staying there at that moment filming the final Game of Thrones season there in the same period. What a bummer.
