Tioman, the little beach haven of the Malaysian Peninsular.

For those who love a bit of sun sand and sea, but are limited by leave to only do short holidays not far from home, Tioman will be a great getaway for you and those who reside in the south-east Asia region.
This all-time favourite destination after Desaru has a terrific underwater marine life, and many diving enthusiasts have flocked here over the weekend to take their beginner or advanced diving course. To have thought that 6 years ago I was one of those who did my course here in Berjaya Tioman Resort Malaysia with ScubaPeople.
Now 5 years later…

..nothing’s changed and the memories are all rolling back. So here’s a little something on why this destination is a great choice for not just diving enthusiasts but everyone who likes a little slice of the laid-back life.
How to get there: Tanjung Gemok Jetty, Pahang to Tioman Island
It all starts from the jetty. Singapore is quite well connected to different islands in Malaysia, Indonesia and more via our bustling ferry terminals.

How to go to Tioman from Singapore via Ferry
The ferry rides take us 1 hour 45 minutes to touch down on Tioman island. We all hopped onto the hotel shuttle bus that transported us quite efficiently straight to the hotel lobby.

Some snippets of what you will see at and around the Tanjung Gemok Jetty.
- Group shot before all the sweat begins.
- View from the bridge over to the mainland
- Disembarking the ferry that brought us to Tioman. Hello Malaysia!!
- Lazy kitten chilling out at the little coffee shop selling drinks and snacks
So what to expect from a chill resort holiday, loads of lazing in the room or on the beach sleeping and reading. If one is tired of lazing around in the villa too much, there are a few activities one can embark on
However, if one gets tired from all that lazing and slothing around all day, there are a whole list of activities one can embark on:
The countdown list of 6 Tioman Island Activites:
1. Diving and Snorkeling around Renggis Island
As shared earlier, this location on the island is the diver’s paradise. Renggis island is situated just a swim away from the Berjaya Tioman Diving Centre. Don’t underestimate this little island, underwater is a world beyond what you can imagine. This little island and marine park houses 130 species of coral and 300 species of fishes. From yellow and black stripe fishes, turtle, squids, baby sharks and the list is endless..

2. Kayaking in the pristine still waters

Sea sports anyone?? Kayaks can be rented from the adventure sports centre at the hotel.
We took a nice long easy kayaking expedition over to the popular snorkeling spot at – Renggis Island. After anchoring our kayaks to the floating carpark near it, we put on our fins and went for a little snorkel around the island to spot some amazing vibrant marine life. That day was a lucky day, as we were lucky enough to see a pair of mother and child sharks and squid. ( Super fast disappeared from sight though, if you don’t notice it fast enough)
Mid-way through our kayaking, was also tempted to climb on top some rocks and do yoga. The rocks are quite slippery and sometimes sharp, so don’t try this unless you are very certain what you are doing.

Fan of beach resorts, find out what other destinations like Mauritius or Maldives have to offer.
3. Chill and Cycle around the vicinity

Single and tandem bikes are available for use to get around the resort, given it stretches quite long from end to end. There is even a golf course and lake situated in the middle, it’s no wonder you need some additional wheels to get around.
4. Leisure Hiking/ Trekking up to the Waterfall

Every holiday always needs a bit of a workout, so put on those shoes and insect repellent, coz Tioman has forest/ jungle trails to attempt and be rewarded by the cool waters of the Waterfall!
- Somebody making himself very comfortable in the jungle
- Green chameleon spotted in the woods. Beautiful textured scaly skin and spots. So fascinating to watch it, yet half fearing it will jump at me when I got closer.
- Posing by the fallen trunk near the waterfall. Feeling too cold to play in the icy water, so just chilling around looking pretty instead
- Grasshopper leaf folded by the guide who brought us to the waterfall
- Everyone enjoying themselves getting refreshed!
- Flowing freshwater stream going around the rocks
5. Tioman Island Beach Activities
When all else fails, there is always some beach activities we can entertain ourselves with, like smacking a ball around – Volleyball!
Word of caution, the sand does get really hot as noon approaches, so if you would like to play without getting too burnt, best to do so before 11am or after 4pm.
Also, slap on loads of sunblock to protect against the mad hot sun. This is Asia, so better be ready for the heat!

6. Swimming and relaxing
Who can resist a nice dip into a resort’s jacuzzi. We escaped here to nurse our burnt volleyball feet after the game.
Also, a great place to grab a cocktail from the sunken pool bar and have good conversations with friends.
