Rock climbing and bouldering is a great workout for both city dwellers and people staying in the smaller towns. While I love outdoor rock climbing a lot, the bulk of the time many of us do not have the luxury to go all the way out to the outskirts to hunt for all the best outdoor bouldering spots.
Hence, that’s where we have incredible rock climbing and bouldering gyms that climbers love to fulfill that fitness and technical need.
There are plenty of incredible top-notch bouldering gyms in Southeast Asia and the whole of Asia Pacific (that includes Oceania countries too!), so if you happen to find yourself with an itch to climb on a rainy day or after a busy day of work, we have your solution!
With sport climbing in the Olympics coming up in 2022, here’s sharing a comprehensive list of the best rock climbing and bouldering gyms in Asia Pacific to keep up that climbing hobby of yours! Many of them I have personally visited or were highly recommended by others, so tell me if I missed any out!

Australia is a vast country with its incredible coastal routes and outdoor bouldering in places like the Grampians. Road trips are a common holiday preference here, but for those who are constantly in the cities and need a regular workout, there are some great boulder gyms to check out.
1. 9 Degrees (2 outlets Alexandria and Parramatta)
With two locations in Sydney, 9 Degrees offers over 500 square meters of bouldering walls to cater to your every boulder need or challenge. You can always toggle between either gyms if you need a variety and a new environment.

2. Nomad Bouldering Gym
Walls filled with over 11,000 rock climbing holds and a weight lifting and strengthening area, Nomad Bouldering Gym will ensure that you won’t get bored at this gym! They also have yoga classes, a pro shop and a cafe to chill at as well.

3. Urban Climb Collingwood
Get a good climbing fix if you are living or working near the area of Collingwood.
Good news if you’re new to the area, Urban Climb also offers a free week of climbing after your first paid visit! How cool is that.

4. The Lactic Factory
Open for 10 years, the Lactic Factory was Melbourne’s first bouldering gym! The pioneering gym in Melbourne, come visit them and immense in the great climbing community.

5. Northside Boulders Brunswick
Born out of the Lactic Factory, Northside Boulders Brunswick is a larger space that offers walls up to 4.5 meters high. They opened in Melbourne in 2014 and have been growing the climbing community every since.

New Zealand is my all time favourite country due to great memories doing a campervan road trip in South Island in summer and immersing in the great outdoor trails and nature sights the country offers!

Uprising is an excellent climbing, fitness, and yoga studio located in Christchurch, South Island. Whether you are looking for a climbing/ stretching or strengthening workout, you can get it here!

Rocktopia is the only climbing gym in Tauranga, so if you’re based in or visiting the northern part of the country, be sure to make time to check it out and get a great climbing workout!

Hong Kong is known for its stunning skyline, fresh tim sum and crazy bustling streets. But with the hectic lifestyle of the people here, indoor bouldering and rock climbing are a popular workout option.
9. Verm City
If you are into size, Verm City is the biggest climbing gym in Hong Kong! Apart from an adult crowd, they also offer kids’ classes, for those visiting or traveling with children.

10. Attic V Climbing
Attic V Climbing is Hong Kong island’s only bouldering gym. Don’t be deceived by that fact, their bouldering walls offer over 100 routes, so you can boulder to your heart’s content!

GoNature Climbing gym has been open for over 15 years, so they are one of the pioneers of climbing in Hong Kong. The team is also very helpful and have pride themselves in answering queries about climbing if you have any.

Explore the outdoor climbing spots in Taiwan and Yang Shuo in China
Though Cambodia is a relatively flat country, there are plenty of opportunities to climb at a number of the nation’s boulder gyms! Many gyms also offer top rope and lead climbing, so if you’re looking to change it up a little, you’ve got options.
13. Phnom Climb Community Gym in Phnom Penh
Phnom Climb was Cambodia’s first climbing gym, located smack in the heart of Phnom Penh! And as the name says it, its all about building community and friendships.
Phnom Climb gym is located very near Russian market and surrounded by a wide array of cafes offering delicious local and international eateries.
This gym has something for everyone, whether you are a beginner or advance climber. It offers both lead climbing and top rope options for your preferred interest.

14. Angkor Climbing Wall in Siem Reap
Located in Siem Reap, the Angkor Climbing Wall offers both bouldering and rope climbing, making it a perfect option for all types of climbers. So bring along your bouldering shoes when you are looking to make a trip to Siem Reap.

Known for its beautiful beaches, mountains, and rainforests, the Philippines is a gorgeous location. We see flocks of tourist heading here for the islands of Coron and volcano region of Legazpi. However, if you’re trying to get some climbing in, consider heading to some climbing gyms in Manila, the country’s capital.
15. Climb Central Manila
Climb Central is the largest climbing gym in the Philippines and belongs to a chain that started its first outlet in Singapore. Big plus: it’s also air-conditioned which not many of the older gyms in South East Asia has. That helps to conquer the heat during the hottest times of the year.

Vietnam is one of the most beautiful places in South East Asia in my opinion. I have gotten to climb in places like Cat Ba Island, Vang Vieng, Huu Lung and more. But if you are more into indoor bouldering, then below are a few options for you.

Get ready to step up your climbing game!
We paid this climbing wall a visit when we were based in Ho Chi Minh for a couple of weeks. It has a super cool concept with a cafe next door, outdoor movie screening, a skateboard park and cool activity rooms in container building for art jamming and more. If you want to impress your climbing date or keep your kiddos entertained for hours, this is the place to go.

18. Vertical Academy
Saigon’s social climbing club..that’s what they are known for!
With a great bouldering and campus area, you’re sure to get a great workout in at Vertical Academy, which was the 1st bouldering ym set up in Ho Chi Minh city.

VietClimb was the first bouldering wall ever to be built in Vietnam. We paid them a visit in January/ February this year and made friends with some of the lovely climbers frequenting there. They are also the gym that is managing the Huu Lung Climbing routes and trails.

20. Saigon Climbing Centre
Climbing is the only cure for gravity!
Saigon climbing centre has a great community vibe, with a nice green lawn like design, and an area where you can actually set up a picnic on the ground. You can set up a mat, chill with your little ones or pets while watching your friends climb them routes!

A Southeast Asian country consisting of over 18,000 islands, Indonesia is a beautiful vacation destination, and if you’re hoping to get some climbing in during your stay, you’ve got options! Indonesia offers a couple of outdoor and indoor bouldering gyms, so take a look!
21. Bali Climbing
This climbing gym is an awesome indoor/outdoor facility with a variety of climbing walls, workout equipment, and a patio hangout zone for stretching and catching with fellow climbers.

22. Tokei Ubud Climbing Gym – Temporarily closed
A lovely bouldering gym located in Ubud Bali. The gym is equipped with a long climbing wall varying from slab to vertical to overhung. They met with a little incident recently which led to them being temporarily closed, but will be opened again soon.
