ROCK GYMS IN SINGAPORE – An all-time favorite outdoor hippie sport that has started picking up greater mass interest in Singapore in recent years.
Being a rock climber, here’s a list of common misconceptions people have when they consider taking up the sport:
- You’ll need to have a lot of arm strength, so the more muscles the better
- You need to be very strong hence boys always have a huge advantage
- You will require a lot of money to pursue this hobby ( just like diving)
In actual reality, the above is all wrong.
Once you embark on this sport, you will start to realize how different it is from what you perceive, and how this sport accommodates people of different strengths, sizes, young and old, male and female; all have the ability to excel in this sport, and even become healthier! You can find many people exercising at the top rope climbing Singapore gyms, which I’ll share below.
Just check out the participants in the international climbing competitions and you’ll see a variety of contestants of varying heights and builds!

Starting rock climbing as a hobby isn’t hard.
For 1st timers who want to give it a try, you just need to head to your nearby rock gym, rent some climbing gear like climbing shoes and harness for a day, and be accompanied by a certified belayer (for the majority of the gyms). An average trip with equipment rental all included can cost you between SGD$25 – 40 for the whole day, which isn’t much compared to some other recreational/ adventure activities in Singapore.

In the event you did give rock climbing a shot, love it, and want to take it more seriously, you can go the next tier to take a level 1 certification course at about SGD$65 – $80 which is available for booking at respective rock gyms in Singapore OR via qualified private climb instructors, depending on your preference. Then comes the buying of…
your first pair of shoes…
harness…
carabiner and ATC belay device…
And before you know it, you are hooked to the sport with a full, complete set of climbing gear….

So now that you roughly have an idea about what is rock climbing and bouldering, let’s share with you this list of climbing gyms all over Singapore
47 Top Rope Climbing Gyms in Singapore for your ‘Climb’ consideration:
(In no ranking order)
1. Ground Up or previously Climb Asia

This rock gym in Singapore has its heritage as the pioneer climbing gym, with its cozy atmosphere in the heart of Tessensohn Civil Service Club. Regarded as one of the more affordable rock gyms around, they also have an amazing climbing shop to browse as and when you feel like feasting your eyes on some new gear. Always look out for their sale periods!
- Ground Up Climb Asia | 60 Tessensohn Road, c/o CLUB CSC @ TESSENSOHN Singapore 217664

2. Climb Central with 5 Outlets

Kallang Wave Mall
Located smack at Kallang Wave Mall Sports Hub which is next to the Stadium MRT station, this gym is perfect for those who want to experience climbing for the 1st time with your friends but do not have your level 1 belay certification. The rock gym’s setup makes it friendly to top rope belay in safety with your kids or 1st timer beginner friends. But for safety precautions, you would need to sit through a quick 15 minute safety briefing.

Novena Climb Central Outlet
It’s smaller than the Kallang Wave Mall outlet, but cozy and less crowded. If you live in the North area, this would be the perfect rock climbing gym for you.
Funan Mall
If you have not checked out Funan Mall in Singapore, you are missing out on this swanky mall with its rooftop urban farming Edible Garden and endless hipster food stands, cafes, and restaurants. Of course, the climbing gym is located in the middle of the mall with great spectators around, though in my opinion, the full space seems a bit tighter than their Kallang Wave Mall outlet.
- Climb Central Sports Hub | B1-01, 1 Stadium Place, Kallang Wave Singapore 397628
- Climb Central Novena | Novena Square 238 Thomson Road #03-23/25 Singapore 307683
- Climb Central Funan | 107 North Bridge Rd, #B2-19/21 Funan Mall, Singapore 179105
- Climb Central i12 | i12 Shopping Mall, 112 E Coast Rd, Singapore 428802
- Climb Central Choa Chu Kang | Safra 28 Choa Chu Kang Drive, #03-02A Singapore 689964
- Single Entry Price: $28
- Monthly Pass: $104 – 131
3. Safra Yishun Adventure Sports Centre

Now known as Camelot, this outdoor rock wall still reigns as Singapore’s highest outdoor rock wall. For those who like a bit of the sun and the full experience of outdoor climbing, this location will be my recommendation. However, the weather proves volatile in this part of Singapore so do come earlier in the day to get more hours into your climb, or get caught in a downpour.
4. The Cliff

Calling all Westies or climbers looking for climbing gyms in the West nearer to your office, The Cliff is located next to Science Centre/ Snow City which is walkable from Jurong East MRT station. It’s a popular place among people trying to take their level 1 certification as it is less packed, and also a good training ground in an outdoor setting.
5. Climbers Laboratory

Always wanted to try a 180-degree arch route? Climbers Lab is the only rock gym that can allow you to experience that. They also have a climbing shop that sells quite a number of climbing equipment options. The nearest MRT is the North East Line (Purple Line) called Woodleigh MRT.
Climbers Lab | 48 Woodleigh Park, PUB Recreation Club, Singapore 357844
6. The Rock School
Located at Bedok Community Centre, this heartland climbing gym is perfect for the easties – families, kids, and young people who just starting out climbing.

An interesting thing is that the gym founders both came from a sports climbing and sports science/ youth development background. Hence the climbing facility is designed to provide exploratory sessions, fun and social experiences for beginners, and structured programs designed to develop climbing techniques for fitness enthusiasts and novice climbers.
- Bedok Community Centre Outlet: 850 New Upper Changi Road, Singapore, 467352. p. 6242 2106.

7. Clip and Climb Hometeam NUS

This fuss-free fun gym, first developed in New Zealand, is perfect for people of all ages and climbing abilities. More fun than anything else, this gym comes with 19 exhilarating routes, and with its auto-belay system. Thus making it super convenient for climbers who are climbing alone or with people.
8. Lighthouse Climbing
One of the newer bouldering gyms that started, this gym is located near Pasir Panjang MRT Station.
9. Kinetics Climbing
This place is the most popular bouldering gym in Singapore among the regulars and hardcore boulderers. They have recently moved to their new location at Serangoon Road. They also occasionally have really good discounts for their climbing shoe brands and stuff that you can buy as gifts for your boulderer pals.

Address: 511 Serangoon Road Singapore 218153
10. Oyeyo
Located at Mackenzie Road, this bouldering gym is tucked away from the bustling city area. It provides a cozy spot for climbers to just boulder, people-watch, and have fun.

Oyeyo Climbing | Address: 148 Mackenzie Road Singapore 228724
11. T-Hall Singapore
Take a step right into T-Hall and you will be welcomed by the sight of the Fun Zone. Auto belay system is available in this welcoming gym, making the climbing experience feel even more exciting, as jumping down is much more fun than climbing up. If your child ever has a fear of heights, this is the perfect place to help them build some height confidence.

From family-friendly facilities to challenging and blood-pumping problems for the seasoned, T-Hall is a one-stop hub for any looking to start their climbing journey as a beginner or further their climbing endeavors. Visit them today at Crawford Lane.
Address: 464 Crawford Ln, Singapore 190464
12. Let Em Play
Located in Clementi, this little child-friendly gym is focused very much on kids – to let them climb high to their hearts’ content but safe and sound as well. It has 5 unique climbing walls and the special warm-up wall is the ‘Let Em Play’ wall with cute holds in alphabets all the way to the top that makes it super fun for kids!

If you asked me, I found the transparent competition wall the coolest, where the kids can face each other to climb and race! If they are not into competition and are a bit on the fearful side, then the friendly giraffe wall might be what they need.
Last but not least, this gym’s unique feature is that it has an augmented reality rock climbing wall. It can project graphics and has body-tracking sensors to make the climbing experience feel like a game!
Parents who feel left out from all the fun? No worries, you can join in the obstacle course aka high element course, and have fun with your kids in these 15 obstacles.
Address: 18 Boon Lay Way, Trade Hub 21 #01-100, Singapore 609966
Small piece of bad news, the premise has currently closed down.
13. Upwall Climbing
Remember the old Ferris wheel over in Downtown East?
Well, that is long gone and the pretty space by the glass front of the mall is now taken over by the new climbing gym called UpWall.
16 top rope lanes with 10 auto belay routes and 8 lead climbing lanes for the more advanced level climbers. Bouldering can be done shared with the lead climbing lanes, with a thick crash pad set up below it.
Opened during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, this air-conditioned, carpeted gym is really cozy and comfortable without the crazy crowds like some of the other more popular climbing and bouldering gyms located more centrally, where you need to camp on their online pages to secure a slot.

We managed to visit this climbing gym in the far East with a few last-minute walk-ins by our extended family who decided to join. The space is quite friendly for younger kids and toddlers too. There are nice soft white-lining seats against the wall the kids can chill there while their parents climb.
There are some downsides though. The gym caters a bit more to top ropers as compared to boulderers, so there isn’t a designated area for you to boulder and do exciting overhangs. Also, prepare for a bit of a nosy crowd of families and kids watching you if you climb on the part that is against the railings of the mall.
UpWall Climbing Gym | 1 Pasir Ris Close, E!Hub@Downtown East, #01-105, 519599
14. Boulder World
Paya Lebar area just got more hip, ‘coz a new gym called Boulder World has just opened right at Singpost Centre. Great location given that is located right at a big MRT station interchange crossing the Circle line and East-West line.

- Boulder World Orchard, 290 Orchard Rd, #06-25/26 Paragon Shopping Centre, Singapore 238859

Clean and fresh with air purifiers and even towels, it will be one of the fanciest gyms you will see in Singapore. So instead of working long shifts and work hours, hit the gym for a new workout and indoor fitness hobby.
The latest update was in 2020, when Boulder Movement opened its 2nd outlet over at Tai Seng MRT station. Super fresh outlet with a lovely living room vibe interior and brand new bouldering crash mats, this will be a great date spot for northeasterners and those looking for the next top rope climbing Singapore gym to explore.

15. BFF Climb
I found out about BFF over dinner with a boulderer recently, and I was amazed that they already had 2 outlets despite only opening in 2021.
One cool thing about BFF is that besides the Boulder Zone, there is the Play Zone which is the fun element of it. Kids of all ages can come over and get enthralled by all the little obstacle courses, AR Wall, foam pit, and maze. If I were much younger, this would have been something that would strongly appeal to a toddler or kid in us. Another program they offer is Camps, which sounds like heaps of fun. Too bad it probably does not involve sleeping overnight on a portaledge on the wall.
So do swing by and check them out, there are 2 outlets in Singapore depending on if you are more of an Eastie or Westie.
- BFF Bendemeer | CT Hub, 2 Kallang Avenue , #01-20 Singapore 339407
- BFF Bukit Timah | Link@896, 896 Dunearn Road, 02-01D Singapore 589472

- Single Entry Price : $27
- Monthly Pass: $108 – 141
16. Boulder Planet
For the North folks, finally here comes a gym that is situated near you. Boulder Planet is located at Sembawang shopping center and has a fancy edgy space, which is a mix of bouldering and social space.
I love that they are all about sustainability and they even have a policy of not advocating and distributing single-use plastic on their premise. FINALLY, a gym that takes this seriously. We have yet to pay them a visit yet but I do hope they also have recycling bins and they do encourage their users to do proper sorting. Singapore needs to buck up in terms of implementing more initiatives to make a more sustainable lifestyle.
So pardon the distraction, do check them out at Sembawang Shopping Centre at Basement 1.
- Boulder Planet | SEMBAWANG SHOPPING CENTRE, 604 SEMBAWANG ROAD, #B1- 22/23, 758459

Hello Lydia, I am interested in rock climbing but do not have any experience with it. From your article there are many good places to choose from, so can you recommend me a place to train? Appreciate it!
Hi Boon!
So thrilled to hear you want to kicksart this sport. Are you looking to pick a climbing gym to try out for the 1st time? If you are going on your own, a gym with an auto-belay system like UpWall or Climb Central would be great. If you are keen to have an instructor, many of the gyms have beginner classes. I know a couple of private instructors and if you are keen, drop me a private message for a recommendation!
